New Vs Used ATVs: Up-Front Costs and Prior Ownership

Jan. 9 2023 Blogs By Louisiana Power Sports

If you're looking into your options for an ATV or UTV, one of the first major choices you'll be making is whether to go the new or used route. Robust options exist in both these categories, and which you choose will actually depend on a number of specific factors and elements.

At Louisiana Power Sports, we're happy to offer both new and pre-owned ATVs, UTVs and other vehicles for clients around Shreveport and nearby areas. There's no "wrong" choice when choosing between these two - yours will simply depend on your needs and several related factors. This two-part blog series will dig into these specific variables to consider.

Up-Front Cost

As you likely didn't need us to tell you, new ATVs and UTVs cost more than the used options. Generally speaking, this is because newer vehicles have increased features, performance capabilities and other benefits - but it also has to do with the fact that you're essentially paying for a brand-new item. Purchasing new can be a good option if you've got the funds set aside specifically for this purchase, as well as the financial means to cover any surprise and/or additional expenses that may come up.

Conversely, pre-owned vehicles often cost much less than their new counterparts - in some cases, you can save thousands of dollars right away by going used instead of new. This can be a great choice if you're looking to upgrade your ATV or UTV but don't have the budget for a brand-new model. Just make sure to ask questions and get all the details on what condition the vehicle is in, especially if it's used.

Prior Ownership

Another major factor to consider when choosing between new and used ATVs and UTVs is prior ownership. With a new vehicle, you know right away that there's only been one owner previously - yourself! This is especially beneficial if you plan on taking your ATV or UTV out on the trails or off-road often, as you can rest assured that the machine has been well-maintained and is up to date on any and all necessary repairs.

On the flip side, if you decide to go pre-owned, you'll want to be extra diligent in researching prior ownership and ensuring that your chosen ATV or UTV is safe and reliable for whatever purpose you plan on using it for. You may have to factor in the cost of any necessary repairs or maintenance into your budget, as well.

At Louisiana Power Sports, we can provide you with all the details and information you need on both new and pre-owned ATVs, UTVs and more. Make sure to check out part two of this blog series to learn more about these two options and which one is right for your needs.
